Weekly Wishes #11

Happy Monday everyone!

Today’s picture prompt is ‘hobbies‘ and what better time and picture to announce my one true love to the world? Reading and writing make up a huge chunk of me and without either of them, I don’t think I would be the person I am today. Reading and writing are my ways of escaping reality and creating my own realities. Does that not sound like the best thing ever? For me, there is no one without the other.

Those are just the books Skye and I have been hooked on for, hmm, two years and counting. It started out with me finding that copy of The Last Assassin under a pile of books and thinking to myself, ‘excellent, new reading material’. Long story short, after we finished reading The Last Assassin, it was hello mystery/thriller aisle, goodbye romance aisle!

Barry Eisler is a brilliant writer and his John Rain series is one of a kind but(!) Rain’s personality is questionable. David Baldacci and Robert Crais are right up there as our favorite mystery/crime/thriller authors. You have no idea how many times we’ve reread The Watchman. Eisler, Baldacci and Crais each have their own unique writing style and you know how I adore seeing different writing styles.

Oh, then there’s The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas which is mind-blowingly good. You have to read it. Well, you don’t HAVE to but you might as well because the plot if wonderfully complex and brilliantly-written. My all-time favorite classics are The Three Musketeers, Anne of Green Gables and probably Little Women since it’s my mom’s favorite classic. What are yours?

See what the topic of reading and writing can do to me? I meant to write a brief paragraph about the picture but ended up saying much more. I’ll stop here before it becomes a full-blown post on my favorite books.

How did last week’s wishes go?

1. Redeem coupons. Bleh, no.

2. Cheer Skye on for her exams and try not to distract her. Check! Well, if you don’t count making her start watching K with me. K has been really good so far, by the way.

3. Scan in more of my drawings. Check!

4. Reply to my friendโ€™s messages and Malloryโ€™s email. Check!

5. Look for a good site to learn Japanese. Check!

6. Stop being so lazy when it comes to working out. Half-check! ๐Ÿ˜›

This week’s wishes are:

1. Focus more on my nail blog. Juggling two blogs… hasn’t been easy. I didn’t create a new blog to let it slide so this week I’mma put effort into blogging and connecting more.

2. Look up some winter wear fashion. Yup, if you’ve got any advice on how to dress for winters, I’ll be glad to hear it.

3. Continue my search for more good shows. Recommend, folks. Whatever the language, as long as it’s good and has subtitles (for non-English shows), we’re game. Skye and I have watched French and German movies among other shows in foreign languages. The movies were surprisingly good even though the subtitles were terrible. One of these days I’ll start on the Japanese drama that Mallory recommended. Let’s just face it – I am a TV buff.

4. Find ways to stop procrastinating so much. Suggestions?

Eh, can’t think of any more good goals for this week so I guess this’ll have to do. If I think of any more and manage to complete them, I’ll include them in next week’s post. Join in on this uber fun and motivational link up. Link up with Melyssa.

What else? Oh, wait for either Part 2 of my Hakuouki Reimeiroku review or Skye’s review. Yeah, we both enjoyed it so much that we each wrote a post on it. Also, I’m guest-posting for Skye’s art series tomorrow, yay! I’m uncertain whether or not to post up more of my drawings but we’ll see.

About Christmas… Who’s excited?! I’ve started painting my nails all Christmas-colored. I know some of you have started Christmas shopping but what else? What Christmas prep have you started doing?

Okay, well, I think that’s it from me. Ace this week, folks!

Weekly Wishes #6

Hey, Monday! Did everyone have a great weekend? I could use some sushi and there didn’t seem to be a picture prompt this week thus the sushi rolls! Who’s with me on creating a Sushi Day?

Anyway, let’s do a recap on last week’s goals:

1. Remind myself that I’m awesome. All of you were totally supportive of my goal to write for myself so thank you for that! I didn’t remind myself that I’m awesome but I definitely felt awesome all week long so yay?

2. Write better posts. Hmm, I would say this was a success since I wrote 2 2000word posts – eek, I know! You’ll have to wait and see that later on. I’m just working on it a wee bit more. I give up, I am a perfectionist even though I always say that I’m not. With writing comes my not-good-enough syndrome so that’s why it takes me forever to finally approve of a post and hit publish. Anyone else struggle to ‘perfect’ their posts?

3. Watch more TV. I totally did this. I’ve been watching TV all day every day. Haha, I love that so many of you loved this goal. It was definitely very relaxing to just kick back and watch all the TV I could. Let’s be couch potato friends. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So with last week’s relaxed goals, I neglected quite a few important things but hopefully all the relaxation has helped me regain energy for what I have to do this week. This week’s goals:

The Nectar Collective

1. REALLY get all the non-online things done. I used to wish that Neverland existed so that I wouldn’t have to grow up and be an adult and y’know, have to shoulder all these adult responsibilities. Naive child, that I was. Well, that was then, this is now and as much as I try to reject the idea of me being ‘grown up’ now, it’s real and I just gotta do what I gotta do. Even if it sucks. Because I’d rather watch TV and pretend that all is good. I am an idealist in so many ridiculous ways, sometimes I wonder if it’s a good thing or bad thing. Siiiiiigh. I wonder how you grown-ups do it.

2. Write. Again? You’re probably wondering. But yes, haha. This time on actual paper. I actually miss writing on paper and I have to admit that I have been growing too dependent on Microsoft Word. I used to carve out a good portion of my time every night just to write on paper. That was good. Now I think, oh yeah I’m unplugging when I write on Word but then I can’t help checking my Twitter feed and blog and other sites and gah, I just get distracted and I’m kidding myself when I say that I’m unplugging. So yeah, just find some time to actually pick up a pencil…

3. Reclaim my passion for art. And not let anyone stop me. It’s time I got back into the art groove. It’s where my heart has always been and where it should always be. I’ve just stumbled along the way and encountered negativity that turned me off and I was too weak to shove all that crap right back where it belonged. Instead I let it consume me and discourage me. Well, it’s time I climbed over the wall I’ve been looking at and take a look at the vistas beyond it.

Wow, really idealistic goals I’ve got this week. I was going to take it easy again and list down easy goals like watch even more TV or find Halloween nail art for inspiration but hey, what do you know, look at my list. I think in another world I would be a superhero. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What are your weekly wishes? Don’t forget to link up with Melyssa!

Oh, and here’s last week’s posts if you feel like you’d like to stay a while:

  • Skye wrote her fantastic review of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). I caved. I’ve started watching it. LEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!! <3
  • We offered you a smile this week for our Wordless Wednesday. Pretty sure you can still grab one ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • Skye quoted Leonardo Da Vinci in her Adventures with Art and for good reason too. Go be inspired here.
  • The 3 kinds of people we met during brunch.. very interesting folks.
  • I had 6 favorites for last week’s favorite reads.
  • Who else loves the ocean as much as I do? If you do, you’d probably love the outfit I created for my Fashionable Friday post.
  • And it’s back – my weekly anger and stress series.

And that’s a wrap. Hope you kick butt this week!

Weekly Wishes #2

I’m linking up to Melyssa‘s Weekly Wishes again this week. Y’all are so awesome – thanks for the encouraging comments ! It was what kept me going throughout the week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Recap of last week:

Monday – I managed to draw and exercise and blog even before my weekly wishes post came out, whut?!

Tuesday – I didn’t draw because I lost track of time while doing some spring-cleaning. I remembered to exercise at the last minute – I did 4 out of the 5 squats from the squat challenge (I found out about it through Rachel’s Weekly Wishes post. Thanks Rachel!) among other strength training moves. That squat challenge is no joke – y’all should try it. My glutes were buuurnin’.

Wednesday – I made up for not drawing on Tuesday with 1 1/2 drawings (haha!) and I did a light workout since I was way tired from the past two days.

Thursday – I woke up early, did a lot of blog stuff in the morning and managed to come up with 2 drawings before lunch.

Friday, Saturday – No drawing, no exercise ๐Ÿ™

Sunday – Exercise but no drawing, boo.

I know some of you asked me to post my drawings but I have yet to step out of my comfort zone – I have never showed anyone my piles and piles of unfinished stories/stories in-the-works (can I call them that?) so to post my drawings would be taking an even bigger step. I will try to post them next week… or after C posts hers.

Anyway, throughout last week I blogged about my love for biology, the TV shows I’m looking forward to (tell me yours!) and I went all 70’s hippy chick for our Fashionable Fridays. If you want to know what I listened to, here it is. And if you want to know what I didn’t say on Wordless Wednesday, check it out over here. And more recently, I went to a dinner party and learned 10 new things.

In addition to last week’s wishes of drawing and exercising consistently, this week’s weekly wishes are:

1. Prioritize. Last week I meant to blog consistently every day and I said I wasn’t going to complain but it was brutal. Okay, not to an extreme extent but I just felt like I had so much to do. I have to maintain this blog and my nail blog in between all the other things that I’m juggling. So this week I’d like to prioritize better and do what’s most important first and the let the rest of the unimportant things take a backseat. I would also like to use my time more wisely, like not spend too much time on one thing.

2. Moisturize my cuticles more. Is this considered a wish? ~_~ It’s not easy to remember to moisturize my cuticles but I would like to make it a habit. Before painting my nails regularly, I never bothered with any kind of hand cream or cuticle cream but now I can see that moisturizing does make a difference. I use Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, if you’re wondering.

3. Take more pictures. I don’t know why we’ve been taking fewer and fewer pictures over the course of this year. I feel like it’s such a shame to not document moments in pictures. Let me tell you that forward-facing cameras are the most ingenious creation of the 21st century. They make taking snapshots in the car so much more fun.

What are your weekly wishes?

x T

P.S: I’m so excited to tell you that C finally updated her section on our about page! Go check it out if you haven’t.

Double P.S: I’ve been asking this on my nail blog but nobody has given me an answer so I hope someone here might. Should I make an Instagram account?

Triple P.S: Check out the nails that I did last week:

TV shows we’re looking forward to this fall

Guys, come on, who doesn’t like Elementary? Okay, don’t answer that. I know there are some freaking diehard Sherlock fans out there who are ready to bash Elementary at a moment’s notice. Seriously, though, please don’t leave me a miles-long comment about why Sherlock is superior to Elementary because I’ve seen all that I need to see on Tumblr and it is naaasty.

I like Elementary so there. Admittedly the first episode wasn’t exactly stellar and usually I cast aside TV shows whose pilot episodes don’t catch my attention but I decided that I was going to be more optimistic and give it a longer test period. So I kept watching and it kept getting better and at the end of the season I was crying, silently begging for more. Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller who has the most fascinating array of facial expressions) and Joan (Lucy Liu) are so cute together – I love the dynamics of their multifaceted relationship which is strictly not romantic. Finally, a decent TV show without any wild and unnecessary sex scenes (Suits, I’m looking at you and looking hard).

P.S: I love Sherlock’s cute/fugly sweaters.

Person of Interest

Person of Interest, you will not force that ridiculous routine of one-episode-every-other-week-or-whenever-you-feel-like-showing-up-on-TV onto us this season!!

This is our FAVORITE TV show of all time. Jim Caviezel, hellllllll yeah. Did you see him in the Count of Monte Cristo (which I typed as Mount of Conte Cristo before realizing and backspacing it)? You should. The book is ALHDSFLDJG SO GOOD and the movie was just as good. And Michael Emerson from Lost? I never watched Lost though…

I do have to warn you that you will get hooked to this show and you will never be the same person again after watching it. Hahah! How true that is, you’ll have to decide for yourself by watching it. Note that I’m trying to persuade you to watch it in every sentence because it really the most mind-boggling, well-written show.

White Collar

Gah, the storyline has been getting poorer and poorer so I’m hoping that this season they’ll do something to bring it back to its old awesomeness. Why does this happen to most TV shows anyway – start out great but slowly get crappy and off-topic?

P.S: At the risk of sounding shallow but not caring, we’re still going to watch it because of Matt Bomer.

Yes, Arrow has slowly crept up our list of TV-shows-to-watch. It started out as a filler for us while we were waiting for other shows to come back on air but what the heck we watched it till the end and we don’t have many complaints about it except some parts of the acting and script. We need to see some Olicity (Oliver + Felicity) because Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy have zero chemistry so that part really needs to go.

Can’t wait to see what next season brings.

Now moving on to TV shows that we need to catch up on:

The Big Bang Theory

Hah, I’ve been stalled at season 6 for months now. I really need to catch up to whatever season they’re at. C is still stuck somewhere in season 4, not sure if she’ll keep watching though.

We kind of stopped watching after they took out Bobby but we’re thinking of picking back up where we left off. Is anyone up-to-date with Supernatural? What’s the deal with the Winchester brothers and Cas now?

We’reย  happy that they’ve put Misha back in as Castiel. The only reason we kept watching after season 3 is Destiel’s (Dean and Cas) bromance. C and I are not on the Sam bandwagon, in case you were wondering.

What shows are you looking forward to most? Who else is with us? Do you watch any of the same shows that we watch?

x T

Annual time for reflection

Happy New Year’s Eve, folks!!

ย snoopy_happy_new_year_cards

While I’m at it, here’s a cute Peanuts comic strip,peanut-newyear

A few more hours to 2013. Weird to be typing 2013… Anyway I thought I’d do a little summary of how our year has been and what we’ve put on our ‘like’ list and what we’ve dumped unceremoniously into our ‘ugh, hate’ list.

The entertainment part of our year in review.

In the music section, we didn’t really find much worthy to be put on our music player except music from a few bands/musicians:

  • Boys Like Girls
  • Carly Rae Jepsen (you’re judging so hard, I know LOL!)
  • Matchbox 20
  • Owl City
  • Train

You’re probably going, What the heck is wrong with you? How could you have liked only 5 albums in ONE year? Hmm, about 95% of the music on the radio is crap and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any better. I mean, if we can have G#ngnam and that ‘We are Young’ song playing on the radio, the music industry is pretty much doomed. No, I am not kidding and no, I do not care if you are offended. That G0tye song was just as bad. Yeah, we don’t listen to the radio anymore.

Some other singers/bands we do not quite care for: One Direction, Rihanna, Taylor Swift (Why is she even still considered a COUNTRY singer? And can she stop whining about her ex-boyfriends already?), Nicki Minaj, Fun, Justin Bieber. I’m sure there’s more to add to the list but that’s it for now.

Well, I’m pretty sure if we had looked harder, we might have discovered new non-mainstream music. If you have any suggestions, feel free to tell us in the comment box. No, we are not fans of indie music, sorry! Oh my, this is making us look like picky (music) eaters.

In terms of TV shows, we added tons of new shows to our list of ‘watchables’. The pictures below are ranked in terms of how watchable the show is. From top to bottom: watchable to ALL-TIME FAVORITE YOU SHOULD GO OUT AND BUY THE DVD watchable.

Covert Affairs

Possibly the cheesiest spy show anyone could ever add to their list of guilty pleasures. There’s not much to this show – most parts are cliche, the characters are silly (almost undeveloped) and the lines are supremely corny – but we found ourselves watching it till the end. It might also have had something to do with the fact that we were waiting for other TV shows to come back on air again.

Cheesiest part of the whole show: Annie wears Louboutins in almost every single episode and she has tons of designer shoes but she’s new to her job. Somebody please explain to me as to how she pays for her shoes. Maybe there’s a secret to not having a stable income but being able to splurge on Louboutins. Miu Miu heels for me, please, thanks. O:)

Okay, Stephen Amell, you’re ripped and I know lots of guys who would LOVE to be able to do that exercise with the steel bar that you do but can you show a little more emotion and depth while playing Oliver Queen? Also, green leather does not do your superhero alter ego justice.

This show is alright but it does have its ups and downs. Some episodes give hope to the next but sometimes the next one turns out to be a disappointment. But it has potential so we’ll keep watching and keep hoping that it will get – for lack of a better word – epic.

Personally, I like Raylan. He’s great. None of my friends know how to appreciate this show but it’s their loss. There’s always something interesting going on in Harlan County and you can see each character grow in every episode.

I wonder if Winona will have a girl or boy.

The Vampire Diaries

I started watching out of boredom and now I find myself looking forward to the next episode. I have to give it credit for not being overly corny or ridiculous like Twilight. The first season was so-so and now I’m at season 2 and it’s getting exciting. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

Have I read the books? Nope. Frankly, after the Twilight saga, I didn’t think I could stomach any more so I didn’t get past the first few chapters of TVD.

I have a soft spot for Damon… shhh! Ian Somerhalder looks disturbingly like someone who used to be my friend. Creepy, I know! Not too big a fan of Stefan who is the Edward of TVD. C and I agree that Jeremy is annoying.

White Collar

Matt Bomer. The only explanation needed to describe this show.

Okay, fine. It’s not just his gorgeous looks (Matt, let’s be friends! I love you!). I like the dynamics of the show and there is real growth in the relationships. Neal and Peter work so well together but there’s always this part of Peter that is afraid Neal will screw up and go back to his old ways which makes their relationship complicated at times. Ugh, and Neal is brilliant and looks oh-so-dapper in a suit! Loved that episode when he parachuted down the building.

Then there’s Mozzie who is basically the secret star of the show with his paranoia and ingenuous wit. We love Mozzie! Peter’s wife, Elizabeth, can be pretty cool and helpful in some cases but we’d love if their adorable Labrador gets more screen time. ๐Ÿ˜‰

White Collar should be down here but I’m too lazy to swap pictures. Discovered this show by accident when one day I was channel-surfing and this was the only show that didn’t look boring. Who else thinks the theme song is hilarious?!

Suits is SO clever. I’m all for lawyer shows and this one does NOT disappoint. Witty conversations, complicated lawsuits, office politics, office romance, Harvey and Donna – what’s not to like about Suits?! One thing though, Mike becomes a bigger douchebag with every episode.

Watch this and you will get Litt up!

Chaos is a discontinued TV show but C and I love it!!! They should have given it a chance… and a bigger budget. That would have helped. The four of them – Michael Dorset, Rick Martinez, Billy Collins and Casey Malick – are so funny and they work well as a team of misfits. Why couldn’t they have done something to save this show?! I honestly have no idea what TV companies think when they cancel good shows and let stupid reality TV continue airing.

If you have time, go find all 12 episodes and watch them. Admittedly, the sets are bad and story lines are mediocre but the acting is good and with a little more effort, it could have been a hit!

The Big Bang Theory

Oh, this is HILARIOUS. I don’t know why we didn’t discover this earlier. They deserve all the awards they’ve won. It’s funny, smart (beyond smart) and well done in so many aspects. Who writes the dialog?! They should be given awards. Combining witty and intelligent conversations is no easy task, I’m sure.

I started out watching it alone in college during my breaks but now I’m watching it again with C and my mom. We literally roll on the floor laughing while watching every episode. We’re semi-geeks so that’s another reason to be so into it.

Watch it and follow the epic lives of Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj and Penny! It’s AWESOME.

Person of Interest

Here we are! At our ALL-TIME FAVORITE TV SHOW. POI is ashdfksdjmind-fricking-blowin’! Have you ever watched anything so deep and well-written? The main idea of the show is stopping crimes before they happen. If this idea seems familiar to you, it’s probably because Early Edition has the same idea. But this is far from Early Edition. POI is in a league of its own.

If the other shows mentioned above are clever, this show is the epitome of brilliance. Slight exaggeration but well-deserved, I’d say. Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson portray John Reese and Harold Finch perfectly. I wouldn’t have anyone else play their roles. Detective Carter and Detective Fusco as their aides just make the show better. There are so many angles to the show and it always leaves us on the edge of our seats.

One word: Bravo!

Oh, and we LOVE Bear! <3

The movie department, however, has been deeply lacking in movies that make an impact on us. We did adore The Avengers and Taken 2 but 75% of everything else was just horrible.

Movies that were good/not too shabby:

  • Man on a Ledge
  • 21 Jump Street
  • Mirror Mirror
  • Lockout
  • Safe
  • The Bourne Legacy (this borders on not that great and boring but the motorcycle scene was cool)

Movies we could not sit through because they were just so bad and movies that made us feel like our time was wasted:

  • The Hunger Games (Sat through the first 10 minutes, couldn’t stand the screaming, skipped the rest)
  • Looper (Oh god, this was bad! We had free tickets so we went to watch this and regretted it. Horrible sci-fi movie)
  • Step Up Revolution (Worst of the lot, no doubt… the script was cornier than Twilight’s, the plot was a mess and the dancing wasn’t even that mind-blowing)
  • This Means War (Eww, it was a bad rom-com)
  • Snow White and The Huntsman (Lots of mumbling and it was a bit too dark for our liking)
  • Magic Mike (Sat through 10 minutes, watched Channing build a roof, gave up on the rest of it)
  • The Amazing Spider-man (First off, we don’t even like Andrew Garfield.. I don’t even know why we tried to watch this. Andrew can never be the Spider-man that Tobey Maguire was. Emma, you don’t measure up to Kirsten Dunst’s MJ Watson either, sorry. Why remake a perfectly decent movie so soon?)
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower (I know y’all loved it but it just wasn’t our cup of tea. The plot had too many holes in it, almost like suggesting we read the book before we watch it??)
  • The Vow (He didn’t end up with her, what the heck?)

Yup, gonna get flak for our list but who cares?! We have yet to watch most of the movies that came out this year but we’ll get there…?

Okay, on to the video game part of 2012. I am proud to say that I managed to play at least 2 new games this year – Batman:Arkham City and Counter Strike:Global Offensive. I didn’t finish Batman but it was a really good game. Catwoman should be with Batman!!

C and the brother bought me CS:GO so I started playing. I’m not too good at it but it’s fun. They’ve been trying to get me to play Portal 1 and 2 but I’m not biting… yet? LOL.

I did watch C play Batman, Crysis 2, Assassin’s Creed 3, Battlefield 3 and CS:GO. My observation, AC3 sucks but Battlefield 3 rocks. Connor, you can’t replace Ezio, not with that ‘tude of yours. I’m not too sure how I feel about Crysis 2 since (SPOILER AHEAD!) Alcatraz suddenly became Prophet at the end.

Okay, this is the end of my extremely long post. Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment or Tweet us.
