dont waste now, precious time

Dean Robillard: Who says you're not pretty?

Blue Bailey: Oh, it doesn't bother me. I have so much character that adding beauty to the mix would be greedy.

- Natural Born Charmer, Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

I love this book as much as I love reading which is a lot.

i’m working it out, please don’t give in

Let's do '10 things I hate about you':

  1. I hate walking in to find people taking up my laptop space. It's so irritating because I hate sharing.
  2. I hate obnoxious talk during meals because it's sickening and I just might get up one day and hit you in the face.
  3. I hate it when I make effort to do something and it doesn't get recognized.
  4. I hate people using my room.
  5. I hate whiny men. They make me sick and I'd love to slap them real hard in the face just to see if that'll wake them up. I wish they'd just shut the hell up about every little thing. E.g: 'OH NO, there's a hair in my fruit! What should I do? Oh my god, there's a hair, what should I do? Should I wash it with my effing piss because I don't understand what the word 'water' means?" and repeated "I cleaned the damned room and no one appreciates it". Well, I've cleaned the house more times than you and I haven't said squat about it. :) So why not you stick a damned pacifier into your mouth and sulk in the corner? because no one actually likes listening to crap like that, especially from grown men. Whee~
  6. I hate doing my homework.
  7. I hate my math teacher as of two weeks ago. I don't know what her problem is but she's so uncool.
  8. I hate people who think they can get away with anything.
  9. I hate people who are big on fake apologies. Sorry, sorry, sorry. The word comes out so naturally, I'm not sure it has even crossed their minds what the word 'sorry' means. It's just an excuse to get people to slave away for you. HA-HA.
  10. I hate silent meals.

That was fun, maybe we should make it a weekly thing. :O

Hmm... let's move on to '10 quirky things you probably don't know about me':

  1. I actually like washing the dishes. Don't tell anyone! :P
  2. When I'm not reading, I'm writing.
  3. I nudge my sister under the table by kicking her leg (and vice versa) whenever we have secret messages to pass along. Usually we don't say it out in words but with one nudge and a roll of our eyes, we know exactly what each other mean.
  4. I don't like indie music; I kind of prefer mainstream music???
  5. I like guys who have a certain style of wearing jackets. (:
  6. I strongly dislike math and science and I don't know what I'm going to do in the near future.
  7. I love daydreaming during science class and that's where some of the brightest ideas are hatched.
  8. I don't like carrying my cellphone around even though it's a necessity.
  9. I've read Cecelia Ahern and Nicholas Sparks books but I'm sooo not a fan of theirs. No offense.
  10. I love my mom (even though we have grouchy days and pesky arguments) because she's really cool and she's my role model.

That was super cute and fun. You should do it too. Okay, off to study for a pop quiz thingamajig tomorrow. Oh, and to finish incomplete math homework. Ugh, refer to number 6 for both top 10 lists. Can't wait to write, blah.

i will stand by you forever

Adam Brody is so freaking cute! (: My new love. Doesn't he remind you of Jesse Eisenberg from Zombieland? C says it's because they both have curly hair. Mmm, cute! Get lost, Nick Wheeler. Come back when you've gotten rid of that awful pink bike. LOL.

This is Mom's new addiction, Enrique Iglesias. Get lost, Paul Walker. Come back when put out a record. LOL.

    Mmhmm, get to the side.

Adam Levine is C's new love. Woooooo! Mmm... Can't wait for their new album.

Robert Hoffman is my grandaunt's favorite. Yes, the Step Up guy. LOL!!!

    Okay, the end.

    this love was worth it

I saw this the other day - I think someone posted it - and I like it. This is an article from copyblogger.com. I wish I came across this earlier because it sort of helps in big ways.

Doing these things can help you become a better writer:

    1. Become a blogger.

    2. Use self-imposed word limits.

    3. Accept all forms of criticism and learn to grow from it. (Okay, still trying to get started here. Showing my work to others is sort of intimidating because it just is.)

    4. Read what you’ve written over and over, until you can’t find any more problems. (Now I do this a lot but I often get distracted by other things)

    5. Show what you write to a trusted friend for feedback. (Hah, my sister, sometimes)

    6. Outline. And then write to that outline.

    7. Edit, and edit again. (Don't I always?)

    8. Live with passion. (Ditto)

    9. Be open, curious, present, and engaged. (Double ditto)

    10. Take a break between writing and editing.

    11. Learn a new word a day. (I don't know if I'm doing this but I do look up the dictionary a lot)

    12. Get the pen and fingers moving.

    13. Write in different genres: blog posts, poems, short stories, essays.

    14. Read grammar books. (There's one lying beside me but I gave up on that a couple of months ago. Does that mean it's time to pick it up again?)

    15. Write without distractions. (I need this. Badly. Where is the solitary silence that I crave for?)

    16. Challenge yourself: write in a crowded cafe, write on the toilet, write for 24 hours straight. (If only people would stop looking over my shoulder, lol)

    17. Take a trip. Road trips, beach trips, bus trips, plane trips.

    18. Watch movies. Can you write the story better? (Oh, I love this.)

    19. Write. And then write some more.

    20. Read, think, read, write, ponder, write – and read some more. (This is so me.)

    21. Read your stuff aloud to anyone who can stand it – including the cat.

    22. Go back and cut 10% from your word count. (I'm not exactly sure what this means but I do go back and cut)

    23. Talk to people.

    24. Listen to how people talk.

    25. Read lots of books. Both good and bad. (Thanks, Twilight. LOL. Okay, that's mean. I like good books and I pride myself in having good taste. My friends recommend books that they think are amazing. I find them so-so and sometimes, bad)

    26. Make notes of your (fleeting) brilliant ideas.

    27. Start your writing ahead of time – not hours before a deadline.

    28. Listen to podcasts on writing tips.

    29. Use simple, declarative sentences. (Picked this up from Mom who is also a writer and one of my favorite writers)

    30. Avoid passive voice. (Really? Good advice. I'm constantly wondering which one to use - active or passive)

    31. Limit your use of adjectives and adverbs. (Ah, ever descriptive us)

    32. When in doubt, cut it out. (I need to observe this advice :/)

    33. Kill clunky sentences.

    34. Be inspired by other art forms – music, dance, sculpture, painting.

    35. Read your old stuff and acknowledge how far you’ve come – and how far you have to go.

    36. Write for publication, even if it’s only for the local newsletter or a small blog.

    37. Make writing your priority in the morning. (I need my 'me' time *bangs head on keyboard*)

    38. Keep squeezing words out even if you feel uninspired. (Blehh, I always close the word document when I'm uninspired)

    39. Tell everyone: “I’m a writer.” ( :/ )

    40. Recognize your fear and overcome it.

    41. Let your articles rest and then return to them with fresh eyes.

    42. Comment on your favorite blogs.

    43. Keep a journal to keep the writing juices flowing.

    44. Use a journal to sort out your thoughts and feelings. (Sometimes)

    45. Keep it simple.

    46. Practice monotasking. Set a timer for uninterrupted writing.

    47. Watch people. (Good thing I'm a people-watcher then)

    48. Get to know someone different from you and reflect on the experience.

    49. Try new ideas or hobbies – the more variety you have in your life, the more likely you are to keep on generating good ideas on the page.

    50. Read works from different cultures. It helps keep your writing from tasting stale in the mouths of your readers. ( ;) )

    51. Rethink what is ‘normal’. (Always!)

    52. Work on brilliant headlines. (I like)

    53. Check if your assumptions are right.

    54. Join a writing group. If you can’t find one, form one.

    55. Write during your most productive hours of the day. (Usually when everyone's quiet)

    56. Designate time to research.

    57. Take time to muse and mindmap.

    58. Map out a writing schedule for your project and stick to it.

    59. Ask someone else to proofread.

    60. Read Zinsser’s “On Writing Well” at least once a year.

    61. Break out of your comfort zone.

    62. Write at the scene. If you want to write about a beach, get a picnic rug and go write by the sea. (Mmhmm, sounds goooood)

    63. Go to the supermarket, the ball game, the class room, the building site. Make notes of the sensuous details, the atmosphere, the people. (I like this)

    64. Start with metaphors and stories.

    65. Approach writing with gratitude, not just with a ‘must do this’ attitude.

    66. Deconstruct and analyze books and articles you enjoy. (I've turned pages of books I love until they're all worn out. The more tattered my books are, the more you know the value of it to me)

    67. Know about story architecture. Many writers don’t. Which is like doing heart surgery or flying an airliner by intuition. Survival rates are low.

    68. Socialize with other writers.

    69. Stretch or exercise in between writing. (I need to do this too)

    70. Make a note of ideas for further development before you leave a piece for tomorrow. (I should because I like to keep it mind but when I wake up the next morning, I have to dig deep to remember what I was thinking about)

    71.Use mindmaps for inspiration.

    72. Take risks – don’t be afraid to shock. You are not who you think you are. (Cool. I'm Batman)

    73. [Please add your own suggestion in the comment section!]

    to each his own

I can't wait for the next episode of Justified. I know that might sound crazy to anyone (and my mom) but it feels good to be watching something different.

I need to watch something. It makes me feel better after a long stressful day. I was super duper annoyed when we had to take a rain check on the latest episode. I was practically counting down the hours and it just had to rain on that day. Whatever. At least, we watched an episode today.

There's something about the smooth dialogue and witty words. That something is really good, I'm telling you.

Anyways, it's really interesting and I think I'll continue watching further episodes and wait for season 2 as well. There aren't many movies to watch now, so I won't complain. As long as it keeps my mind off stress. But, if you're looking for something cowboy, you should probably watch Justified.

    what is love

    Image plucked from Tumblr.

    Reach Out by Take That

If our arms were reaching out
If our words could only bridge the doubt
Will we lose this chance again?
    Strange roads with different signs
Don't even know where we divide
Are you my enemy or my friend?

    'Cause I don't know you
    And you don't know me
    It's the same sun rising
We all just look to the sky
    If we try
We can work it out somehow
    If you don't know me
    And I don't know you
    How can we be fighting
    We're all connected it's true
    Reaching out
It's only love that pulls us through

We all grieve in different ways
If one tear could wash away the pain
We're all free to have the faith we believe, yeah
The world sleeps at different times
With one turn your day is now my night
We all live sharing the air that we breathe

    'Cause I don't know you
    And you don't know me
    It's the same sun rising
We all just look to the sky
    If we try
We can work it out somehow
    If you don't know me
    And I don't know you
    How can we be fighting
    We're all connected it's true
    Reaching out
It's only love that pulls us through

    Reaching out, reaching high
    Reaching out
    Touching you, touching me

If your arms were reaching out
If our words could only bridge the doubt

Five years ago, if you asked me if I thought that Adam Brody was cute, I would say no. Today, I think he's adorable. (: I don't quite like the OC phase but now that he's past it, I think he's ohmygodgorgeous. Don't ask.

Okay, so it was infatuation at first sight for me when I saw him on Jennifer's Body which is arguably better than Twilight. I like guys in bands, so sue me. ;)

you make it hard to breathe

According to my mom, Paul Walker wins.

Oh well. It's Chris and Paul for me. I'm torn, really.

Oh, by the way. Chris's eyes are blue. SCORE!  :D

On a side note, if you've seen the front page of Bing, you'll know that the cheetahs are absolutely gorgeous. I love cheetahs. I'm not a big fan of cats but I adore big wild cats like cheetahs, tigers, leopards, jaguars and cougars. They're just really beautiful and majestic and graceful. Aren't they?

    Images from Bing.

I want to own a cat farm. As crazy as that sounds, I believe that anything is possible. If I don't get to own a cat farm in this life, maybe I'll get to own one in my next life. I guess the closest thing to owning a cat farm is working at the zoo or something. Scary, considering all the stories you hear but still...

Cheetahs have always amazed me with their speed and footwork. Have you ever seen them run? It's just crazy. I'd love to run like a cheetah. I'd be able to run away from a lot of people. LOL.

    Buddhist quote of the day:

I myself feel, and also tell other Buddhists that the question of Nirvana will come later.
    There is not much hurry.
If in day to day life you lead a good life, honesty, with love,
    with compassion, with less selfishness,
then automatically it will lead to Nirvana.

a smell of wine and cheap perfume

The Losers. Now that was a pretty good show if I must say so myself. I read some negative reviews about the movie but I personally found it entertaining and not quite as bad as they say it is. Went with the family so it was good company and good movie wrapped in one. Perfect!

Everyone in the cinema couldn't stop laughing throughout the entire movie. Yes, it was just plain funny and sometimes laughably corny but funny all the same. It's a bit predictable but there are some turns and some pretty intense moments which make it all the more interesting and I sound like a big fat ad but I can't help it because it's true.  :D

I like the cast. I think they chose really suitable people to portray the characters so that helped. I mean, I still can't decide who I like best in the movie. Zoe Saldana was smoking hot but isn't she nearly always? I mean, that's why she's on the list of hottest women, right? Oh, and why are all the baddies in the movies such business-like people? What happened to those rugged bad boys and wicked guys? Look at Iron Man 2, for instance. That Justin Hammer was perpetually dressed in a clean suit just like Max in this movie.

The weapons were kinda cool and not as exaggerated as you might think. I like how everyone has their own specialty and quirkiness especially Jensen's button-cute tees - ;) - . It makes everything more realistic. The script was well-written. I think the beauty of a movie depends mostly on the script. You can have good actors and good sets and good everything but if the script is lousy, there goes the movie. The soundtrack is also important because who doesn't like music?

Ohmyfreakinggawd, Chris Evans is nerdy hot in the movie. I always thought of him as cute (Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four *wink wink*) but when I realized that the cute geek in the movie was him, I just fell for him. Swoooon. LOL. I know my mom thinks he's pretty darned cute too. Hmm... cuter than Paul Walker?

    Muahahahaha. Just maybe, hmm?

The Takers is next on our list of movies to watch.

    never need to go back

    Images from theshoegirl.blogspot.com and theheelsandthequeencity.heels.com

I think I'm in love with Harajuku Lovers' shoes!!

So gorgeous and so unique, don't you think? I crave for at least one pair now. I know the second pair is a bit crazy and I'm not a fan of tartan but look at it! It's perfect. I can see myself owning a whole array of Harajuku heels. Man, at this rate, I think I'll probably be spending more on shoes than on daily needs in the future. Must not splurge on shoes! Must not splurge on shoes! I still need to survive so it would be wise to control my love for heels until I finish college and get a steady job.

I just found TheShoeGirl a couple of days and I'm a big fan of her blog now. She posts the cutest pictures of shoes and I cannot resist snagging them. You can find more at her blog. Oh, and she's a shoe designer. OMG, so cool, right? D'you think she'd personalize something for me? LOL. It'd be nice to own something that isn't selling in any other store. Wishful thinking is definitely my forte!

Oh, well. I guess I'll have to stick to trying to place myself in gorgeous heels.  :)

    california girls

While I'm lying here, befriending everyone else on Google Friend Connect, I'm thinking about the conversation a few girlfriends and I had today. Fridays at school can be a drag or they can be fun. We had like 3 free periods today so it was a pretty empty day.

I have no idea how our conversation started but I think it started when one of my friends, Meg, asked me if I knew any good dress shops. You see, her brother's getting married soon and she has yet to pick out the perfect dress. I happened to know that we had a fashionista and avid shopper in our class - Nikki. She's a cheerleader and she's the perfect shopping partner or so I like to think.

Suddenly Deb (who is prone to burst into conversations unexpectedly) and Sonja are pulling their chairs up to join in on our little chat. And you know how we girls can never just talk about one thing for long. We covered a few things but the main topics of discussion were dresses and books.

Interesting conversations and for me, I don't find myself talking about fashion with my friends often. It's my mom whom I confide my taste in fashion to. My friends don't know I have a passion for high heels or my liking towards flip flops and unfussy clothes.

    Images from Bing

I dig Megan Fox and Katy Perry's style - chic and uber cute and sometimes classy. Taylor Swift is a little too, um, weird for me. I've never thought of myself as a dress-wearing, accessory-donning type of girl. I'm more into jeans and flip flops and plain T-shirts which Taylor doesn't wear. I don't get why girls don't like pants.

Anyways, us girls talked about dress shops and budgets. Meg said that her budget was under a thousand bucks. I swear we all gawked at her like she was nuts. I don't think she's aware of the fact that normal dresses don't usually cost that much. We're not exactly celebrities, you know.

Then the conversation drifted for a while. Deb, Sonja and Nikki started talking about some specific shop. Meg looked at me and asked me if I knew any good shops that sell high heels. Oh my god, I looooove shoe-shopping. I think I spend more on shoes than clothes.

I told her a few places which I think sells pretty decent shoes. Then Meg turned to Deb and asked her what she thought of high heels. We had a really silly conversation.

Meg: Hey, Deb, what do you think of high heels?

Me: Hey, Nikki, are you a fan of high heels?

Nikki (eyes wide with excitement): Definitely!

Deb: Oh my god, no. Don't even talk to me about high heels. That day I stood for two hours in heels this high (about two inches) and it was torturous.

Sonja, Meg, Nikki, Me: *laughing like maniacs*

Deb: And when I went caroling, I had to wear heels this high (again she shows about two inches of heel) and I nearly died. I swear it was so tiring!

Sonja: I can't imagine what would happen to you if you walked in higher heels.

And then we couldn't stop laughing because Deb just looked so horrified.

Then slowly we began to talk about books because we're enthusiastic readers. Nikki has never read a Meg Cabot or Sophie Kinsella book before. Can you believe that? I can't because I've read almost all their books.  :P

Me, Deb and Sonja decided that The Mediator series by Meg Cabot is the best series. I read The Mediator a couple of years back and I'm still madly in love with the books. I have yet to introduce Susan Elizabeth Phillips to my gal pals. (:

At the end of the day, we decided that it'd be awesome to go out together one day to shop for clothes and books. How girly does that sound? Sounds fun, huh?
