This Means War – a movie review

So we watched This Means War yesterday. And let me just say: It was amazing... for the first thirty minutes. If you think it looks as exciting as it did in the trailer (which showed practically the whole movie), then I'm here to prove you wrong.

FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) sabotage each other's dates with Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) to win her heart. That's basically how the story goes and as far as it can get. I don't have to include the fact that there was an antagonist, Heinrich (played by Til Schweiger) because the main plot barely included this part.

Firstly, I was fooled into thinking that there would be lots of action in a steady and consistent, maybe funny, storyline. The first scene looked very much like a captivating spy-action film. The next few minutes into the movie was even better with some witty and smart conversations. Everyone was smiling and laughing. But as the movie progressed, it became clear to me that the 'romantic comedy and spy film' was actually a B-class (with some Hollywood production of stunts and effects) movie of crude humor and poorly developed characters. In short, it was boring.

I don't know if the part was supposed to be played like that, but Witherspoon's Lauren was flawed, fake smiles and everything. Lauren's personality was similar to the foolishness of Cameron Diaz's June in Knight And Day. Don't get me wrong. Witherspoon acts in great movies I've watched and loved, but her role as Lauren was just unlikable. In fact, all the characters were not likable at all.

Moving along to Chris Pine as FDR, good-looking womanizer who actually has a heart of gold by the end of the movie. Let me quote his IMDb profile before I start. "Trademark: Frequently plays charming and likeable characters." Yeah. Right. Perhaps Pine wants to head in another direction for his acting career or is trying to play different characters a la Johnny Depp. Sometimes, different is bad. FDR was not only a very stereotyped character, but an annoying jerk with a shallow personality. Pine was plain disappointing in this movie. (I thought he was excellent in Unstoppable.)

Tom Hardy's Tuck exceeded my expectations. A little. Okay, I actually had no expectations. Like any other movie, Tuck's personality had to contrast with FDR's nasty behavior, so Tuck was the nice/pleasant/good/honest/modest guy. Obviously, Tuck was a much better character to watch but either the audio was just bad or Hardy mumbles because I had a tough time deciphering his conversations.

Trish, played by Chelsea Handler, was by far the worst character in the movie. I get that female main characters of romantic comedies need their gaggle of best friends, but seriously? A foul-mouthed friend with the crudest scenes in the movie? Wrong move, McG (or the one to be blamed).

SPOILER ALERT!

The only scene I found entertaining and maybe enjoyable, sandwiched between a bunch of boring scenes where FDR and Tuck spend what feels like a lifetime in different surveillance rooms to spy on each other, was the scene where Lauren danced in her kitchen while the two loves of her life darted in and out of her house. I liked how the camera rolled continuously across the rooms.

I disliked the ending. Immensely. FDR didn't deserve to end up with Lauren. It should've been Tuck, although he had a fair conclusion to his own story. There was not much difference in the chemistry between Lauren and Tuck compared to Lauren and FDR, but at least Tuck seemed more sincere and humble (?). Ah, why do I even need to justify a meaningless movie? I won't even rate it because it's that bad. (Okay, maybe not as bad as What's Your Number, but still.)

Well, if you like an anti-climatic movie with some crude humor and a lacking storyline, then be my guest. If you prefer movies with depth and significance, watch Leap Year (one of the most satisfying romantic comedies I've ever watched) or Just Go With It (hilarious movie for those who want to hurt their stomachs laughing) and heck, even The Bounty Hunter (which received poor rating despite its amusing humor).

Supernatural back with season 7

The season premiere, "Meet The New Boss" cleared up some questions for us last week and now we await the next episode in excitement.

I thought it was a pretty good episode because it's got me all fan-girly and hungry for more episodes - the amazing things cliffhangers can do to watchers. I hope Dean gets his own twist in the story. (It looks like he will in the promo for the upcoming episode.) Frankly, I'm getting bored of watching Sam struggle and pretend that everything is okay. No doubt Misha Collins did an excellent job on his portrayal of Castiel, everyone's favorite angel who has gone bad. As for Bobby, he's always just there to keep things intact and hopefully he'll be able to help Dean through. I enjoyed Crowley's appearance. He's funny, 'nuff said!

Can't wait for Friday already!! Looooooove.

white collar season 3 premiere

Don't you just love the poster for season 3 of White Collar? Matt Bomer is always sizzling as usual with his super good looks. I mean, everything about him is perfect! Seriously.

I am definitely not excited for the season premiere because Hilarie Burton has become one of the main characters now. Her acting skills are pretty poor and she's just plain irritating with that constantly tangled-up hair of hers. Trust me, it does not look sexy or natural on her. She looks like she just jumped out of bed and went straight to the set without looking at herself in the mirror. Let's face it - she doesn't even look good beside Matt, who deserves someone slightly younger and prettier like Gloria Votsis who plays Alex Hunter in the show. Heck, even Alexandra Daddario a.k.a Kate in the show looks better than this wild woman. Hilarie as Sara Ellis tries too hard to be the most gorgeous woman in the show - her eyes are always shifty, her voice is always husky, her ridiculous dresses are super tight and when she smiles, it looks as if her hackles are up, literally.

You know who looks the best in the show? Marsha Thompson. 'Nuff said.

Anyways, I hope we'll see more of Neal and Alex because they definitely have some chemistry going on between them. And of course we'll see Peter Burke and his ever-so-sweet and loving wife. Oh, and more Mozzie, please! I hope there'll be more exciting action scenes.

Don't forget that White Collar premieres this Tuesday on USA Network!

not so supernatural weeks

Am I the only one who misses Supernatural?

I can't help but wonder about Dean's Metallicar a.k.a the Chevy Impala. It was damaged pretty bad in the last episode of season 6. Oh well. I don't feel like doing a recap/review for the last two episodes because it'll be all fan-girly and you know.. I think I'm beginning to like Crowley though because he's super funny, especially when he goes from talking to shouting. I hate it when he gets all bad-guy-ish. I don't really like antagonists.

Anyways, the four-month countdown shall start from today. Supernatural season 7. Not sure what to expect but it should be interesting. Let's hope Sam and Dean will save the day, as usual.

ROFL, I just realized it's Crowley a.k.a Mark Sheppard's birthday today. Random thought!

It looks like Cas isn't going to make it to season 7 of Supernatural. Producers have been saying that "characters that people like will be killed", so I'm pretty sure that it'll be the end of angel appearances. I wonder how Dean will react to that. That means less funny scenes in season 7.

So what do YOU think will happen? Will Sam's wall break and cause another disaster? Will Dean save Lisa and Ben in time? Or will Lisa survive the possession? And what will Ben's future hold now that he knows that Dean hunts supernatural monsters? Will Cas get killed by Raphael or Crowley? And will a new challenge or creature appear for Sam and Dean to hunt in the next season? All I know is that Bobby will be beside Dean, kicking *** as usual.

Pretty exciting, but somehow I know many fans will end up disappointed.

supernatural saturday

The countdown begins! Two more weeks until the two-hour season finale. Not excited because I'll have to wait for more than a year for the next season. And that really sucks. I can't believe we watched six seasons in six months. Unbelievable. Too fast. But, whatever. I'm (Everyone is) hoping that Misha Collins will return as Castiel again.

Anyways, I'm planning to watch "The Man Who Would Be King" tomorrow. I read all the recaps, reviews and comments for this latest episode. Not satisfying. Dean, Bobby and Sam traps Cas in a ring of holy fire and they find out that they have been betrayed by Cas. This really destroys Cas and Dean's relationship because Dean hates betrayal and Cas is torn between his friends and Crowley, the demon he's working for. Many believe that Cas was desperate. I don't really get what Cas is doing to betray them though. I know the fact that Cas and Crowley working together spells bad news but I don't know how and what they're doing or plotting. This whole episode focuses on Castiel, something you don't see very often.

You know what I believe? I believe in Cas. He may be a fictional character but sometimes we can relate to characters of a movie or something. I believe that he was forced into this situation because he didn't have any guidance from his father whom he believed in and trusted and loved. Cas lost his way while fighting, believing and trusting. He forgot who he was supposed to be and made desperate choices to fight the war between him and Raphael. This may have been caused by his fascination in humans and involvement with too many Sam-and-Dean situations. Cas, the angel of light, may have lost his light but as long as Dean and Sam are there for him, that light won't go out. Dean will remind him of friendship and trust. Cas is still a warrior and he wants to stop Raphael the archangel who has bad intentions. And I don't think he'll be a bad guy for long because (from what it looks like in the season finale photos) Crowley betrayed him by working with Raphael.

But what the fans are worried about now is another problem. Will our favorite angel be eliminated by Raphael and Crowley in the season finale? Will he return for season 7? Honestly, if he doesn't make it, what will happen to Misha's career? He doesn't get main or recurring cast roles a lot. Not that I'm saying he's not good or that his career will end too; in fact, he's a really talented, amazing actor. I don't think anyone could've been a better Cas than Misha. His emotions are so believable that many fans said they cried watching this latest episode.

This topic is drifting from Supernatural to actors, so I'll just cut it short and hope for the best in the upcoming episodes. I really hope that Supernatural won't just end at season 7 forever. Okay, that sounded childish but I don't care. Supernatural fan, all the way!

Okay, so I just watched the promo trailer for the upcoming Supernatural episode. It's episode 20, season 6, if you haven't watched it. I have.. mixed feelings about Castiel becoming evil. I can't believe that he made the wrong choice. He was good at making choices and now there's a rumor that he's been working for Crowley? I can't believe it. But that trailer has really stirred up a buzz among us, fans. Will it be the end of Cas? Some may not care much about a dumb angel interfering with Sam and Dean's hunting and road trips, but you have to agree that Cas has a rather big role in the show. He helped them, saved Dean and did so much for them. Sam, Dean, Bobby and Cas -- they are the best team ever and they can't break up. That would be like Maroon 5, the band, breaking up! They are the puzzle pieces to the perfect puzzle! What would Supernatural be without Cas, the one-of-a-kind angel? And where else can we watch a Misha Collins' movie after that? Oh dear.

Any Supernatural fans out there? Because I'm pretty sure you're the only ones who know what I'm talking about.
